The 100k course covers 2 maps, each loop starts and finishes in the same place – great to catch up with your supporters!

There will be plenty of marshals along key areas of the course. The course will be well marked with directional arrows, plastic poles and reflective tape at night.

There will be two aid stations with nutrition and electrolyte supplements, each one about half way around each loop. You will also be coming back through the start/finish area at the 50k mark you will be able to pick up your personal refreshments/gear as required.  There will be multiple fresh water re-fill positions (creeks) along the course so a water carrying capacity of about 2L per person should be adequate there will be some compulsory re-fill points.

This is a dry, hard, rocky course mostly run over high country 4WD tracks but also including some short sections of fence lines and sheep tracks. The weather can be ‘changeable’ so your minimum gear must be carried at all times.

Basically you are running the same course as the 50k loop except when you get to the ‘Mirror’ corner (800m from the finish) you run straight home while all the longer distance participants carry on around the ‘loop of deception’. Lucky, lucky you! It’s like a cheeky scenic run …with 2000 metres of up and down.

The route takes you from 200m above sea level (Start/finish) up over the top of Northburn Station at around 1660m. Total climb and descent of 2200m.

There will be plenty of marshals along key areas of the course. The course will be well marked with directional arrows and reflective tape. There will be one aid station about half way with nutrition and electrolyte supplements. There will only be a couple of fresh water re-fill positions (creeks) along the course so a water carrying capacity of about 2L per person is important. there will be some compulsory re-fill points.

This is mostly a dry, hard, rocky course  run over high country 4WD tracks but also including some sections of fence lines, sheep tracks and alpine streams. The weather can be ‘changeable’ so your minimum gear must be carried at all times.

Minimum gear requirements are:

The Northburn 100 Miler

100 miles is 161km folks, and this course will have you climbing and descending around 10,000m (32,808feet). That’s a good honest effort.

Visit the Route Profiles page to study and download a map of each loop. The 100mile (161km) course covers 3 maps, each loop starts and finishes in the same place – great to catch up with your supporters!

The first 50km loop take you from 200m above sea level (Start/finish) up near the most central point in New Zealand at around 1660m (2600m vertical climb). The second ‘loop’ is now a 60km loop (we do the dreaded water race sectionon on the second loop now) with a climb of over 4000m. The third and final loop is now 50ks (cos you will have already done the water race section) but still with steep climbs distributed through it (just under 4000m vertical climb).  Total climb of about 10,000m.

There will be plenty of marshals along key areas of the course. The course will be well marked with directional arrows, plastic poles and reflective tape at night. There will be one aid station about half way round each loop with nutrition and electrolyte supplements. You will also be coming back through the start/finish area at the 50k and 100k marks so you will be able to pick up your personal refreshments/gear as required. There will be some extra fresh water re-fill positions (creeks) along the course so a water carrying capacity of about 2L per person should be adequate. There will be some compulsory re-fill points.

This is a dry, hard, rocky course mostly run over high country 4WD tracks but also including some short sections of fence lines and sheep tracks. The weather can be ‘changeable’ so your minimum gear must be carried at all times.

Should you complete the distance within 48hrs – you will become the proud owner of a legendary Northburn finisher’s buckle!

The half marathon  is a great option for supporters, family,  friends and those ‘testing the waters’ of what Northburn has to offer.

Online entries are open until March 16th -. You can always enter on the day as well, please bring cash.

8am registrations open, 9am race start.

The course is 3 loops just like the 100miler. Starts with the home loop 5km so you get to run past your supporters about half an hour after starting… Then you do the kids adventure loop! (surprisingly gnarly) Back past the start finish then out for the serious 15km of the  the wonderful ‘loop of deception’ – some good honest ups and downs, stunning canyons… you’ll love it. Then back home to glory, 21.1km done and a burger to boot.

There will be water and electrolytes at the start/finish which you pass twice.

If you are fast a 750ml bottle might just be enough to get you through the loop of deception but if it’s hot, a bladder or multiple bottles may be the order of the day.

No minimum gear.
